Biography

A musical journey full of versality

Hans is a musician with an incredibly broad background. In his musical career he has never limited himself to one style: from classical to jazz, from Latin to funk-rock, and even tearjerkers and carnival music – everything passes by. This versatility makes him a musician who effortlessly switches between genres, picking up something from everything along the way.

In 1998 he made the choice to turn his passion into his profession. Since then he has been active as a composer, arranger and conductor. As a conductor, he stood in front of several big bands, with whom he experimented with innovative arrangements and his own work. As a composer, he has worked for large formations such as the clarinet orchestra Lignum, but also for duos, trios and quartets. And don’t forget the organ: in size just as complex to write for as an orchestra. Hans has been listening to organ music all his life and in recent years started writing more and more for it.

His dedication to personal development is remarkable:at age 54, he decided to pursue the conservatory. After admission to Codarts (Rotterdam Conservatory) he studied jazz, composition and arranging and obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2008. Musical growth knows no age.

Hans’s work has been performed by various Big Bands and orchestras. His organ work is regularly played by Arno van Wijk, who will perform several of his pieces on October 10 2025 at the Orgelpark in Amsterdam.
